Today is our last visit at Tang Tao Thom. This means it is a happy but also a sad day. Let's start with the happy part. Because of Tang Tao Thom and our class Foundation of Economics at Chulalongkorn University, Jessica and I got to know each other. We are from different campuses in Germany and due to this project we have had even more contact than we would have without it. We got close friends and I am so glad to have her here and be able to go to Tang Tao Thom with her so many times. We are even planing on visiting each other back home in Germany. Another happy thing about this day is the thought of what we have learned and experienced. The people we got to know during this project were all very nice to us. It is quite different from Germany, where most of the people are focused on theirselves but in Thailand everyone is so friendly and interested in what we were telling them. It was great meeting them! Especially the shop owner was teaching us several things without even knowing it. Because of his calm way to interact he is beaming composure and placidness. It is some kind of attitude towards life of Thai people that impressed us. In the future we want to try to be more calm ourselves in Germany. Of course, another happy thing is that we have got to know this special way of eating soup. We totally love it and I am going to cook it as similar as possible in Germany to present it to my family.
Which leads us to the sad part. We are already sad that something like Tang Tao Thom doesn't exist in Germany. We will be back in our German daily routine soon and will miss several things about Thailand. The people with their calm and friendly attitude, the nature and of course the amazing Thai food. Today is the day, where we realize it is nearly over. Only really few weeks or for some even days are left until our experience abroad ends. Time flew by!
In the end, I understand why we were told to create a blog about a Thai business. To be honest, at the beginning we weren't totally exited about this project because we didn't realize what we would be able to learn from it. However, today we realize it is not about the theoretical work that we have done but about the communication with Thais and a special Thai business. We got to know another side of Thailand and were forced to get in touch with Thai people, which is a good thing! In the end, intercultural communication and getting to know Thailand is the most important thing about our semester abroad. So thanks to our Teacher for forcing us to do so!
A hint for people who will be going abroad: Spend time with the local inhabitants, get to know their culture and attitude towards life as well as the local food! Try something knew, try as much as you can and always be open for difference to your life at home. Following this, your experience abroad is going to be amazing!
And of course the most important thing: If you are going to Bangkok, Tang Tao Thom is a must try!!
